I own a 98 Camry that has the front and rear bumper oxidizing really bad. Why do these cars do that?

The front and rear bumpers are made of a plastic like most cars these days. But on the Toyotas they get very faded over the years but the metal portions of the car stay in good condition. Why do they do this?
